Indian Folk Dance

Published by Simi on 10th Oct 2014

Fall marks the beginning of festival season in India, a time when families and friends come together to celebrate social occasions. Of course, many of the social gatherings wouldn't be complete without dancing late into the night! One type of popular dance, dandiya raas, involves group coordinated dancing with sticks, known as dandiya, to up-tempo songs. I’m no expert but I enjoy learning the dance when I have the chance and everyone is always very happy to teach me. Dandiya Raas is a traditional folk dance originating from the state of Gujarat, and it is featured during Navratri, a ten day festival celebrated all over India.

But Navratri or not, I am always ready for a rousing night of dandiya raas! Staying fashionable and comfortable in, my personal favorite, In-Sattva’s MB Women's Ethnic Kurta Tunic Anarkali 3-piece ensemble, which I adorned during the first weekend of the festival. The Anarkali suit is designed to flare out and move with the body, and looked especially beautiful when doing the spins required in dandiya raas.

Add this to your closet and never worry again about getting the steps down – because you look good!
