Resolve to be the best you in 2015

It’s 2015, out with the old and in with the new! In order to start this year on the right foot and continue with success through out the year, I have to weed out those habits that are slowing me down.

If you’ve noticed it’s that time of year that we focus on changing or fixing the things we think we’re doing wrong. From commercials about reduced gym memberships to articles instructing us how to be more organized, New Year’s resolutions can be daunting and are especially hard to maintain once the shine of January wears off. I’ve fallen victim to this almost every year, but this year I’m absolutely getting serious about my resolutions.

Because I’m on this journey too I’m going to share my top 4 resolutions with you, our In-Sattva fashion blog followers!

1. Eat healthier. This year I’m taking a new approach to this ever popular resolution. I plan on taking out one supposedly unhealthy food a month. For example, in January, I have vowed to give up on chocolates because of its high sugar content. I know it’ll be hard but the rewards are going to be worth it!

2. Learn the art of Bharatanatyam. A classical Indian dance that is taught throughout India and the world, I’ve always been fascinated by the intricate movement. Although I’ve been trying to learn it for some time, this year I’m committed to beginning my study.

3. Travel. Life’s too short to sit in one place. I aim to travel to at least four new places that I haven’t yet visited.

4. Save money. Every month I want to have an extra money in my bank account. I’ll start by cutting back on unnecessary expenses such as eating out and stopping for coffee every morning.

I’ve got some foolproof tips to keep me – and, hopefully, you – committed all year round:

♦ Stay accountable: Whether you’re marking it down in a journal, updating your electronic calendar, or just making notes on your phone, keep an up-to-date diary on how you’re progressing. No accomplishment is too small to note.

♦ Change at your own pace: Try not to deprive yourself right away. Gradual change is the most effective and slow progress is better than no progress.

♦ Reward yourself: Recognize when you are doing a good job. Undertaking a change in your life, no matter how big or small, deserves to be recognized. Plus it’ll keep you continually reaching towards your goals and trying to improve.

♦ Don’t get discouraged: Sometimes we get frustrated when we don’t see ourselves moving forward but try not to loose faith. Keep working towards your goals and they are sure to come true.

♦ Use the good ole’ buddy system! Share your goals with those around you, family, friends, and anyone else that believes in you. They’ll keep you motivated and encouraged throughout the process.

I hope these suggestions serve you well and that this year you resolve to take your resolutions past the season. It’s never too late to create a positive change so make sure you are doing all that you can to create a better life for yourself today and everyday!

Can I share a travel secret with you? Kurta/Tunics are the perfect travel companion! This summer I was fortunate enough to travel overseas for a month, to the lovely city of Paris where I embarked on museum tours, fashion shows, and strolls along the romantic Seine River.
